How to keep journaling for a year

I’ve been seeing this a lot. People struggling to keep up and maintaining a journal for the entire year. I, myself, is not immune to this. I remember a year when I skipped the whole summer. I did not record anything for that summer. It might sound like a disaster but it’s okay. It happens and we can always rise up and try again.

Many say that consistency is the key. I totally agree with this. Journaling should be fresh and habitual. It’s really hard to journal about something that happened a long time ago. This I learned the hard way when I didn’t journal about my travels immediately after the trip because it could easily lose the momentum and you really want to journal when the travel is still fresh in your mind. But to be honest, I can also easily get bored when I do the same thing day after day, week after week, month after month. I want to create something different in my journal. So I try to spice it up a bit with different formats, styles and materials even when maintaining only one journal. Here are some example pages:

As you can see, I try to format my pages in different ways. There are times when I just paste items on the pages, do some practice drawing, use cute stamps or even just plainly write on my pages without any embellishments. Because really, there is no one way to create a journal! I think the most important thing is to be able to journal in a way that makes you happy and gives you the joy in journaling. I also have a digital journal which is a monthly one that I print out as a book by the end of the year. You can check out classes on Skillshare on digital journaling here and here. I also have travel journals and I journal in a form of a blog. Please check out a class on travel journaling here.

What are your thought on this? Do you also struggle to keep up a journal? What are your experiences and suggestions to keep journaling? Please let me know!
